Our Founder

To my new Contrast Crew

My name is Chelsea Gillis

I am the founder of Contrast Wellness in beautiful British Columbia.

My story begins as a little girl, having a core memory of my mom teaching me about Mind over Matter. My feet were incredibility ticklish, and as we lay there on her bed, she tickled my feet and repeated the mantra, Mind over Matter. She said, your mind has the power to shift your perception and the ability to stop that piercing urge to take my foot away. With little practice, I found a place of stillness, and shortly thereafter, my feet were no longer ticklish. This mantra and lesson carried with me into adulthood. I learned at a very young age how powerful your mind can be, in so many aspects.

I played many different sports growing up in Port Moody, competitive swimming, softball, volleyball, track and field, karate.. But the sport that stuck the most was soccer (football for my euro friends). This sport has a very special place in my heart, a deep and meaningful passion. It all started at 5 years old on a gravel field, in the pouring rain.  Over the years of playing recreational sports, I’ve continually had injuries along the way with broken arms, fractured and sprained ankles, and most recently, bulging discs in my neck with early arthritis. I’ve spent many years trying every possible form of recovery and rehabilitation. I would do almost anything to continue to play a sport that I love. I have a few go-to integrative therapies, but after discovering that incredible feeling after I’ve had a day of Contrast Therapy, I knew that this was something I need to implement in my everyday life. There’s a feeling you get when you Contrast that is almost indescribable. You feel lighter, happier, you see life more clearly, and you feel your body welcome this feeling of peace and relaxation. You feel a moment of quiet and the fullness of your senses when you sit in the water. Not to mention how much faster your body recovers.

I noticed during my rehabilitation journey that there was a lack of recovery options for us recreational athletes. Unless you are considered a professional, you are left on your own to figure out how to recover your body and your mind. Injuries can leave you hesitant, fearful, and often times less confident. I am here to change that. I am here to make a difference. The benefits of Contrast are ample. Whether it be for your body’s recovery or your mind’s recovery. There is no other Therapy that can tackle both. I have finally found my passion. After spending 10 years in the Corporate Automotive world, I craved something that spoke to who I am as a person, and I can’t wait to share my passion with you.
